French leek production forecast to increase in volume

UA publication from Agreste Conjoncture, issued by the French Ministry of Agriculture, announces that for this 2023/24 campaign, national leek production should reach
162,578 tonnes, up 3% on the 2022/23 campaign, but down 4% on the 2018-2022 average.
The area planted with leeks for the 2023/24 campaign reached 5,486 hectares, +1% compared with the 2022/23 campaign, but -2% compared with the average for the last 5 campaigns.
In terms of production volume, the main producing regions show very different results: 30,385 tonnes for the Nord region (+24% on 2022/23), 50,260 tonnes for the Ouest region (+2%), 24,206 tonnes for the Sud Est region (+11%) and 39,823 tonnes for the Centre Ouest region (-9%). The other production basins should reach 17,904 tonnes.
