Chile declares agricultural emergency in La Araucanía after frontal system

Chile has activated additional support mechanisms for agricultural producers in La Araucanía following damage caused by recent heavy weather. The agricultural emergency was announced by the Ministry of Agriculture, according to Frutas de Chile.

The declaration allows the ministry and its agencies to adjust existing budgets and move funds into emergency programs. Regional government resources may also be added as authorities establish the scale of the losses.

Farmers are being asked to complete the Agricultural and Forestry Impact Form, or FAS. INDAP users can report damage involving horticulture, fruit production and farm infrastructure through the form, while producers who are not INDAP users can submit the same information through the regional Agriculture Secretariat.

Field assistance has already started. The aid was organized by the Sociedad de Fomento Agrícola together with the regional agriculture authority, with the Chilean Army assisting with transport and unloading.

Agriculture Undersecretary Francesco Venezian also visited Teodoro Schmidt and Toltén to review conditions and coordinate measures with local authorities.
