More than 800 Ñuble farmers affected by weeks of severe weather

More than 800 farmers in Chile's Ñuble region have been affected by a frontal system that has hit the area for over three weeks. The figure comes from an assessment by regional agricultural authorities and INDAP, reports Frutas de Chile.

The findings led regional authorities to request an agricultural emergency declaration covering every municipality in Ñuble. Agriculture Minister Jaime Campos confirmed that the measure had been approved after the required technical and administrative reviews.

The declaration changes how resources can be used. The Ministry of Agriculture can now redirect funds already available within its budget toward needs created by the emergency.

It can also seek extraordinary resources from the Ministry of the Interior and the Budget Directorate of the Ministry of Finance.

Regional Presidential Delegate Diego Sepúlveda said the request was based on the damage assessment carried out by technical teams. Authorities will continue monitoring conditions with municipalities and agricultural agencies as they determine what further assistance is needed.
