The cooperative has branches in Sint-Katelijne-Waver, Borgloon and Zellik. BELORTA has become one of the most famous brands of Fruits & Vegetables.
Despite a complicated year due to difficult weather conditions that led to a decline in production, the BELORTA cooperative achieved a turnover of 2.4% in 2018 compared to 2017.
On its website, the cooperative BELORTA announced for 2018 a turnover of 450 million euros, a slight growth of 2.4% compared to 2017. The volume sold decreased slightly to 635 million of units, or 475 million kg, but the result varies greatly from one product to another in the wide assortment of Fruits & Vegetables offered by the cooperative.
The producers of BELORTA produced this year more than 150 000 000 kg of tomatoes. The area under cultivation is growing and special varieties, which are increasingly in demand, continue to grow. The 2nd largest volume of the cooperative is represented by cucumbers with 130 million pieces. Salads occupy the 3rd place of the cooperative's volumes, and are followed by endives (witloof) peppers, aubergines and zucchini.
As for fruit, pear volume reached 65 million kg, apple volume 35 million kg. The volume of strawberries 10.5 million kg and the volume of cherries 1.6 million kg. The volume of berries has increased due to an increase in blackberry production. Blackberries, raspberries, blueberries and gooseberries are more and more in demand.
