Rainier is preparing to introduce Cosmic Crisp® for export markets

New apple variety is forecasted to shake up the US domestic and global apple market.
After 20 years of development in Washington the cross between the Honeycrisp and Enterprise apples will become available soon. First trees for Cosmic Crisp® were planted commercially in 2017 and 2019 is first year to collect the crop.
Kate Evans, horticulture professor and head of the breeding program at Washington State University, forecasted first harvest could produce up to 400,000 40-pound carton equivalents (18 kg box). Next year harvest could reach 2.5 mln of boxes.
Cosmic Crisp® ripens same time as Red Delicious, having perfect flavor and texture balance, longest storage with natural resistance to browning, this variety is forecasted to shake up the global apple market and possibly replace Red Delicious.

Rainier Fruit Company also markets the Lady Alice®, a proprietary variety named after the patriarch of the family - Alice Zirkle, who moved her family from the Virginia to Washington state in 1888.
Lady Alice is usually available from October till May. The apple does not brown quickly after being cut, and keeps shape and texture at high temperature baking, therefore apple is perfect for snacking and cooking. Sweet, bicolour apple is exported to Vietnam, Thailand and Singapore.
Rainier business is based on US retails, the company is also involved in export and works with customers from UK, Middle East, India, very little amount in Europe, Central and South America, South East Asia.
