Decrease in belgian pear export to the UK
Belgium
Thursday 12 February 2009
Certain belgian exporters report a large decrease in pear exports to UK and in general.
This is due to 2 main reasons: this past belgian pear harvest was 2/3 of what it was the year before, and more importantly, the free fall of the Sterling Pound versus the Euro.
Growers thank the apple production (as most pear growers also grow apples) since it kept them afloat, and are looking forward to the next harvest as, knock on wood, it should be a plentiful one.
