The 2021 production for the 4 NEPG countries (Belgium, Germany, France, the Netherlands) is estimated at 22.7 million tonnes.
The decrease in areas in the NEPG zone (Belgium, Germany, France, the Netherlands) reached around 24,000 hectares, but production should total only 0.8 million tonnes less than in 2020.
NEPG (North-Western European Potato Growers) brings together the national organizations ABS, FIWAP, FWA, PCA (Belgium), REKA (Germany), UNPT (France) and VTA (Netherlands). Potato production in the NEPG area is expected to reach 22.7 million tonnes, 0.8 million tonnes lower than in 2020.
Production is expected to reach 4.43 million tonnes in Belgium, 8.32 million tonnes in Germany, 6.69 million tonnes in France, and 3.24 million tonnes in the Netherlands.
Data indicates that the total area of potatoes has decreased to 497,991 hectares for 2021, a decrease of 24,284 hectares from 2020.
After one of the wettest summers in decades, late harvest conditions were slow and somewhat difficult in most countries except France. The harvest is considered average to good across the NEPG area but production costs (energy, fertilizer, packaging, labor) are on the rise and could negatively influence the areas in 2022.
