The Yucatan production cannot compensate declining production in other regions.
The Chairman of the Union of citrus fruit in Yucatan indicated that citrus production will not be sufficient to meet domestic demand in Mexico.
A cold wave struck the regions of Veracruz, Sinaloa, Chiapas, Veracruz and Tamaulipas, which produces more citrus than the Yucatan region.
Production of the Yucatan is 360,000 tons of which 260,000 tons of oranges and 100,000 tons of lemons. Its production should be sufficient to supply the local market but will fail to meet national demand.
