Pixofarm is joining forces with UPL to improve productivity of fruit farms through innovative technologies

Pixofarm GmbH has received a 7digit investment from UPL Ltd., a global provider of sustainable agriculture solutions. Pixofarm and UPL will cooperate to expand growers' access to Pixofarm’s technology to help improve sustainability, productivity, and efficiency of fruit farms.

Pixofarm is a start-up specialized in agriculture technologies. In 2020, the company won several awards including Interpoma Startup Awards, Global Startup Awards, and Startup Europe Smart Agrifood Summit.

The company has designed a digital solution that helps apple growers optimise their harvest by measuring fruit count, fruit size,  size distribution, and forecasting yields. This data can help fruit producers to boost their production, efficiently plan and improve their operational activities: logistics, packaging, warehousing, marketing and sales, and optimise the application of inputs. 

All they need to do is take pictures of a certain quantity of apples and trees with their phones. Pixofarm uses artificial intelligence, machine learning and image processing technology to detect, measure and count fruits and generate forecasts. 

According to UPL, an important supplier of organic and biological inputs and crop protection, Pixofarm can help apple growers optimise yields and lower costs by improving growers' access to information on the status of their orchard and crop. 

UPL will expand Pixofarm’s access to apple growers in Europe, and additionally invest in product development towards a fully integrated smart farming solution. UPL will support Pixofarm with its network which currently operates in 130 countries.
