The cooperation of the Algerian Ministry of Agriculture and International Potato Center led to the opening of the Tbilisi center.
To implement innovative methods of growing potatoes and introducing new varieties, CIP International Potato Center has launched its center in Tbilisi (Georgia) as its regional office covering Central Asia and the Caucasus.
In addition to disseminating better methods of cultivation, the center will present an extensive offer of training for professionals in the sector, farmers and producers.
With the CIP Center, Georgian scientists will have the opportunity to access the latest technologies and innovative varieties. Seeds can be locally developed instead of imported.
Some experts believe that the various contributions of the center could double the national production of potatoes as early as next year.
Founded in 1971, CIP INTERNATIONAL POTATO CENTER is a member of CGIAR, an international agricultural research advisory group.
