Expo-Agro Almeria, renewed edition in Nov.
Spain

The 24th edition of Expo-Agro Almería, from 27 to 29 November, comes with innovations: a renewed list of targets aiming at turning the event into the largest horticultural show of the Mediterranean Basin. The fair is jointly organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Almería and the Council of Andalusía.
“De forma natural” (A natural way) is the motto used this time to highlight the sustainability of the agriculture practised by the Almeria’s farmers in their greenhouses, with their strong commitment in using auxiliary local wildlife for pest control.
The chairman of the Chamber, Diego Martínez Cano, commented that “thanks to the collaboration of the Andalusian Council the fair will gain new relevance because we’ll have a very important goal”. The intention, stressed Martinez, is that “Expo-Agro could become the reference fair for the local area and for the sector within the international context, as are watches for Switzerland or fashion for Paris.”
The first official presentation within this global context will be in Paris - “because it is a significant place” - for those attending the International Exhibition SIAL, “in order to let them all know about it”. For this presentation there an exposure has been planned to national and international press and to the buyers who are participating in the meeting. The Council has also involved prestigious chefs showing the gastronomic heritage of Almeria linked with fruit and vegetables and the Mediterranean diet.
“After this distribution - Martínez Cano adds - we will implement an innovative strategy through mobile units that will show to the managers in charge of purchases for the large European chains that we can make fresh cut and ready to eat packaged products”.
The Board is considering this as a transitional year for the organization, in order to introduce further developments in future editions. In this sense, the organizers have argued that this year, there has been little time, because “we’ve been working on it only for two months, but we understand that we have succeeded in introducing innovations that will benefit the development of the event. Closer both to the farmer and to the consumer.”
