Situation on international avocado market in 1st week of June 2009
All countries
Tuesday 09 June 2009
The market has remained extremely difficult.
Hass arrivals have continued to peak around 30% above the average (very heavy volumes from Peru and at a lower extend from SAR).
Demand has remained worryingly low for a majority of traders; in spite of a further price decrease (very cheap competing season fruits have certainly continued to have a very depressing effect on avocado sales).
The price level reached is close to the worst seen on the market, especially for big fruits. Stocks have continued to build up, also for medium sized fruits. The green market has continued to resist better (especially in the Northern EU markets), as supply has remained significantly below the average.
Prices have stabilized or even slightly improved.
