Yield and productivity of apples and pears from Argentina are stagnant and should face more and more competition on international markets.

While Argentina is still the leading exports of pears and continues to export large volumes of apples, this may go down.

Recent studies made by the SENASA shows that the production of apples and pears in the region of Patagonia were little changed between 1996 and 2010.

Concerning exports, Argentina should face more and more competition with South Africa, New Zealand and Chile.

The volume of exports declined in all markets destination, except Brazil. In the new markets such as Russia, Argentina is overtaken by Chile through better quality and lower prices.
