The Brexit is proving to be a commercial opportunity for Moroccan exports. The United Kingdom is importing more and more Moroccan tomatoes, which have recorded a +33.7% increase in volume
According to several Moroccan media, tomato exports to the UK reached 97.33 million kilos in 2021. That is to say a progression of +33.7% compared to the 72.81 million kilos exported during the same period the previous year.
A good performance which can be explained by the trade agreements signed between the 2 countries after the Brexit and by the direct maritime line which allows Moroccan products to arrive quickly on the British market. Whereas trade with the UK has become more difficult for Spanish or Dutch exporters who are confronted with multiple customs formalities and complicated regulations.
In the UK the 3 main suppliers of tomatoes are Morocco, the Netherlands and Spain which together supply 91.36% of imported tomatoes.
