Half season Turkish citrus on the market
MLK
Lamas variety of lemons harvested from November to April, as well as Washington Navel oranges and Marshseedless pomelos may be exported from 2 November, a few days earlier than the previous season.
While the citrus season began a week later in 2014, it seems that the good climatic conditions have yielded ripe fruit earlier.
Lamas variety makes up the majority of the lemon that sells for the second part of the citrus season. Last year, about 250,000 tons were exported, exports is 10 percent higher than the 2013-2014 season. It is also this variety that is sent in the caves of Cappadocia to be stored and put on the market in the summer, at excellent prices in summer 2015.
The top five importing countries were Russia (32 per cent of the total market), Iraq, Saudi Arabia, Romania and Ukraine.
