Melon exports expected to break record

Honduras will see another increase in export volumes, and aligning with uropean requirements improves the quality of products.

The melon sector in Honduras expects to increase its exports.

After several years of growth, melon exports in Honduras are expected to increase for the 2011-2012 season to reach 300 million kilos. Last season's exports totaled $291, 3 million kilos.

Honduras has a strong international presence, particularly in the U.S. and Europe. The country sets up laboratories, health checks and has increased organic production to comply with European requirements. This also helps melon producers expand into new markets, particularly Asia.
