Shortage of medium cabbage varieties, again

Today early cabbage is one of the most deficit products on Kyiv markets. Cabbage supply is limited on FARMER market (Troyeshchina residential area in Kyiv); this vegetable is rapidly sold out. And the price is relatively high, up to US$1/kg.
It is interesting to point out that the today's price for early cabbage is more than twice as high than the price for earlier cabbage formed one month ago. This situation is rather typical for Ukraine - the farmers traditionally prefer either super-early cabbage or late cabbage varieties, which are stored well. They often lose the opportunity to make good profit on cabbage, which ripens in June-July. But, 2006 was an exception - that was one of the reasons for the high price for cabbage today. The oversupply of cabbage was observed on market in June-July past year when the producers brought relatively large volumes of cabbage on markets. The price failed to exceed US$0.2/kg; it was often on the level of US$0.1/kg in the mentioned period of time in 2006.
