Italian broccoli and cauliflower exports to the UK up 20.8%

The volume of fresh and frozen broccoli and cauliflower exported by Italy to the UK during the first 10 months of 2008 totalled 2,540 tonnes, an increase of 20.8% compared to the same period of 2007, Italia Fruit News reports.
The value of these exports reached 2.39 million euros, 5% more than one year earlier.
On the other hand, production of cauliflower in the UK has declined in recent years. In 2008, a total of 9,500 hectares were assigned to cauliflower crops, compared with 13,400 hectares ten years ago, the Italian online magazine reports.

According to “The Times” newspaper, this decline is also reflected in the production volume, which has fallen 38% from 195,000 tonnes in 1997 to 120,000 tonnes in 2007.
