Fyffes, Europe's leading marketer of fresh produce with a 17 percent share in EU bananas, has announced that it has recently achieved the EUREP GAP accreditation.
As a result, Fyffes is now in a position to supply EUREP GAP certified bananas to all of its major customers throughout Europe, thereby providing them with the highest level of assurance as regards product safety and growing conditions.
EUREP is the European Retailers Environmental Protocol which was developed jointly by major food retailers across Europe and their supply partners. The objective of this global partnership is to promote safe and sustainable agriculture. Its dual aims are to address consumer concerns about food safety, environmental protection and worker welfare, and to promote best agricultural practice.
EUREP has adopted an extensive range of guidelines on quality, safety and the environment, resulting in the EUREP Good Agricultural Practice (EUREP GAP) protocol. This standard specifies minimum requirements to be met by growers of fruit and vegetables that supply the major European retailers.
