Interest in the Gold kiwifruit variety continues. A recent sale of orchards set a new price record, with 2 million NZD (1.3 million USD) per hectare.
Last month, 5 orchards of kiwifruit in Te Puke, Bay of Plenty region, planted with Green and Gold varieties, went on sale. These 5 orchards were sold to a group of producers for 36.7 million NZD (25.1 million USD). For plots planted with the Gold variety, the price reached 2 million NZD (1.3 million USD) per hectare.
This is a price well above previously observed prices of around 200,000 NZD (136,932 USD) per hectare, and double the 1 million NZ (684,660 USD) per hectare paid for 2 other orchards in Te Puke in June 2017 .
And more than 6 times the median price per hectare (304,430 NZD-208,431 USD) for horticultural farms, reached during the 4th quarter of 2021.
This record amount can be explained by various criteria which are essential: location, infrastructure and productivity. Further record sales are expected for the best orchards.
The best orchards growing Gold kiwifruit manage to produce an estimated yield per hectare of between 250,000 and 300,000 NZD (171,165 USD-205,398 USD), almost double the average seen for the 2020/21 season.
