Chilean citrus campaign kicks off with the first shipment to the U.S
VU
In week 15, Chile began its citrus season with the first shipment of clementines to the United States. In addition to this fruit, Chile will supply lemons, mandarins and Navels to this market from June to October. According to forecasts by the Chilean Citrus Committee, this season's exports will total 45.000 tons of clementines, 120.000 tons of mandarins, 90.000 tons of oranges, and 90.000 tons of lemons.
Despite the fact that the global volume fell 12% compared to 2021, due to logistical and climatic problems, the Committee remains optimistic about the future of the sector. In the last 5 years, the volume of Chilean citrus increased 25%, and with a quality proposal, they believe that there will continue to be opportunities for development.
In 2021, the main market for these Chilean fruits was the United States, receiving 88% of all Chilean citrus supplies. In 2022, the volume will be lower, in particular that of clementines, whose volume is expected to decrease by 35%. However, the US will continue to receive the bulk of these exports. To drive sales and ensure the success of this season, the Committee is launching a robust marketing campaign that will include influencer posts, digital ads, virtual demos and shopping app programs.
