Hail which fell violently continuously for 5 minutes destroyed 73,000 tons of fruits in the region of Kemalpasa, near Izmir on the Turkish Aegean coast, which produces about 15 percent of the Turkish cherries. A harvest of about 90,000 tons was expected. After freezing of March, the production was already affected but there were damaged fruit, making their sale and export impossible.
The selling price of the cherry should strongly increase this season for the fruits that could be marketed.
