Benin pineapple for the 1st time in China

Last September, Benin and China signed an agreement on the export of fresh pineapples from Benin to China. At the beginning of November, 1 tonne of pineapple from Benin was shipped by air to be presented at the 6th edition of the CIIE trade fair.

 

Named 'Pain de Sucre', the pineapple variety grown in Benin has white flesh inside the fruit and a sweet, juicy taste. This variety is hailed as 'creamy pineapple' by the Chinese.

 

 

This opening up of the Chinese market is an opportunity for the Beninese sector, which plans to extend the planted area and increase production.

 

Benin exports around 400,000 tonnes of pineapple a year.
