Turkey wants to set up a World Council of the apricot based in Malatya, in the heart of the region of production.
First world producer of apricots, Turkey wishes to set up a World Council of the apricot to strengthen its position on the market and create more added values.
With a 720.000 tons production, its exports exceed those of the rival countries (Spain, Italy, Iran, France, and the United States).
The world market of the apricot amounts to 2,5 billion dollars a year and Turkey wants to increase its receipts and to carry them quickly in 1 billion dollars.
For that, the Turkish producers have to increase the product value on international markets.
A first measure would be to transform more products in Turkey rather than to export the rough material. Thanks to this approach, the Turkish apricot would gain a market share, that’s why producers ask for investments in installations of high-technology transformation.
Another measure would be to strengthen the prestige of the country abroad by the creation of a World Council of the apricot to study market trends and to coordinate the sector.
This center could take place to Malatya, in East of Turkey, which is in the heart of the production region.
