Price increase announced for dates because of several factors: declining production, speculation, waste among consumers.
The month of Ramadan leads to a rise in food prices, especially of dates.
The price of dates could double during the month of Ramadan. From 350 to 450 AD/kg currently 800-900 DA/kg. According to the Committee of Producers of dates, the increase is likely to be more moderate reaching 500-600 DA/kg.
The drought in the south and the region of Biskra led to a decline in production. This decline in production comes in addition to speculation in the market of date and to waste found among individuals for during the month of Ramadan.
