Olive crop left on trees
United States
Monday 20 March 2006
An olive growers organization in The USA estimates that 10 percent of last year's crop ended up being left on the trees, because farmers could not find enough workers to harvest the fruit before it became too ripe.
Labour shortages, foreign competition and lack of a set prices from canneries have discouraged many olive farmers, some of which have sold their land to developers, according to reports.
