This performance is largely due to potato shipments which have increased strongly, thanks to the abundant production which amounted to 7.937 million tonnes for the financial year 2022 (Photo: aboutpakistan.com).
Pakistan suffered devastating floods last summer that affected about 2 million acres (809,371 hectares) of crops. A few months after this disaster, the country recorded excellent export performance.
According to data from the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics, in the period from July to October, the total vegetable exports amounted to 378,826 tons worth 107 million USD. That is, an increase of +90% in volume and an increase of +57% in value compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year.
This performance is largely due to potato shipments which have increased sharply, thanks to the abundant production which amounted to 7.937 million tonnes for the 2022 financial year. That is an increase of +35% compared to 5.873 million tonnes produced in FY21. Floods did not hit Punjab which is a major potato producing region of the country.
These potato exports were mainly destined for the CIS countries, the Middle East, the Far East and Iraq.
