Renowned for its high spiciness, the "Habanero" pepper is not one of the products commonly used by the inhabitants of Cuba but the country produces and exports it.
According to MINCEX (Ministerio del Comercio Exterior y la Inversión Extranjera) Habanero pepper is a product that is exported successfully. In the first half of January, 8 tonnes have already been shipped and 30 tonnes are planned for this year. From 2016 until today, the agro-industrial company Ceballos, leader in the production of this product has exported more than 100 tonnes to countries like Canada, the Netherlands and France.
Little known and little consumed by Cubans, Habanero pepper is one of the exported agricultural products, constituting a source of income for the national economy.
Mexico harvests around 1,500 tonnes of Habanero pepper. The other producing countries are the Dominican Republic, Guatemala, Belize, Costa Rica, Panama, Colombia and certain states of the United States.
