Slight increase in Mexico's apple production in the campaign 2022/23
VU
According to a recent GAIN report by USDA, Mexico’s apple production in the campaign 2022/23 would reach 641,000 tons.
This is 1% above the season 2021/22 (633,767 tons), and a slightly higher than in 2020/21, however, over the long term reflects a decrease from previous campaigns due to complicated economic conditions for farmers and more unpredictable growing conditions.
Mexico’s production is not sufficient to cover domestic demand, so the country sources about 30% through imports.
For the campaign 2022/23, Mexico is expected to import 265,000 tons of apples. In the previous campaign, the total imported volume reached 266,310 tons.
The main apple supplier to Mexico remains the U.S.
Exports of the said fruit in the campaign 2022/23 are forecast at 900 tons. Mexican apples are mainly destined to countries of Central America, and occasionally to the U.S.
