The lawn, exempt from limitations of water, is the only place of greenery of the region.
The South African coast is struck by an exceptional drought, more particularly the region of Port Elizabeth.
Drastic limitations are imposed since one month. The agricultural production falls in the region and the supply of fruits and vegetables must be done somewhere else that in the province of Eastern Cape.
The president of the local agricultural Association demands the authorization to enlarge the reservoirs which feed the region. In front of this situation, solutions as filtering of the nearby lake or storage in big tanks of water coming from the outside are envisaged.
All the vegetation near Port Elisabeth is burned out except the lawn of the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium which will welcome 8 contests of the World cup FIFA 2010.
"We water only the night at 2 am in the morning to avoid any evaporation and reduce the water consumption ", assures Rob Hitchens, Director of the new stadium.
The inhabitants of the region assure that Eastern Cape is known to have no normal precipitation.
So they hope for good rains, even accompanied with floods, in order to end this drought.
