In Pakistan, oranges are generally the fruit and vegetable category that holds the highest export record, but this year that record will be held by onions.
According to local media reports, the spokesman for PFVEA (Pakistan Fruit and Vegetable Exporters Association) announced that onion exports from July 2023 to April 2024 exceeded USD 210 million.
This performance is attributed to the opening up of new markets, following India's ban on onion exports.
This figure of USD 210 million had already been reached by oranges, which are generally the No. 1 export product.
PFVEA forecasts that by the end of the year, onion exports should reach USD 250 million.
