The approval confirms that Philippine fruit exports meet Egypt’s plant health and safety regulations.
As of May 18, 2025, fresh durian from the Philippines is officially cleared for export to Egypt, following nearly two years of technical reviews and bilateral coordination, according to the Bureau of Plant Industry.
The process began in June 2023, when the Philippines formally requested market access. Since then, authorities in both countries addressed requirements for pest risk analysis, phytosanitary standards, and export procedures, in collaboration with Egypt’s Central Administration for Plant Quarantine.
The approval confirms that Philippine fruit exports meet Egypt’s plant health and safety regulations and reflects growing international confidence in the country’s fresh produce inspection systems.
This new access comes amid a surge in global demand for Philippine durian, with 14,156.87 metric tons exported in 2024 — an increase of 199.23% compared to 2023.
