Peruvian pomegranate exports increased by 10% in the first trimester of 2021

In the first trimester of this year, Peru exported 11.223.523 kilos of fresh pomegranate, showing an increase of 10 % compared to the same period of 2020, reported Fernando Cillóniz Benavides, the president of the consulting firm Inform@cción.
The main destination markets in the first 3 months of 2021 were Europe, with a volume of 9.588.634 kilos (85.4 % of the total), North America with 1.129.803 kilos, Asia with 302.765 kilos, Africa with 166.786 kilos and Latin America with 35.533 kilos.
Regarding pomegranate deliveries in 2020, Peru amounted to 36.561.233 kilos, showing a fall of 9.1 % compared to the 40.208.099 kilos achieved in 2019.
In 2020, the fruit was mainly destined for Europe (26.977.804 kilos), Asia (5.690.637 kilos), North America (2.851.365 kilos), Africa (729.125 kilos) and Latin America (312.299 kilos).
The main pomegranate producing areas in Peru are Ica, with the start of the campaign in April, and Arequipa, whose season begins in February.
