In the United States, the market for organic products crossed for the first time in 2018 the threshold of $50 billion, up by 6.3% over the previous year, according to the study published by OTA (Organic Trade Association).
The 2019 Organic Industry Survey (OIS) reveals that sales for 2018 reached $52.5 billion. Or an increase of 6.3% compared to the previous year.
Organic food sales reached $47.9 billion, an increase of 5.9%. Sales of non-food organic products rose by 10.6% to $4.6 billion. The growth rate of organic products continued to easily exceed the general rate: in 2018, total food sales in the United States increased by only 2.3% while total sales of non-food products increased 3.7%.
Sales of Organic Fruits & Vegetables reached $17.4 billion in 2018, representing a growth rate of 5.6%. Conventional fruits and vegetables grew only by 1.7% in 2018.
Fruits & Vegetables now account for 36.3% of all organic food sales. Organic fruits and vegetables account for 14.6% of all products sold in the United States and have almost doubled their market share in the last 10 years.
