If 2020 production of apples is forecast to fall sharply, pear production is estimated to increase significantly.
Agreste, agricultural statistics and prospection service of the Ministry of Agriculture, has published estimates of apple and pear production.
As of July 1, French apple production in 2020 is estimated at 1.389 million tonnes. This represents a decrease of 9% over 1 year and 8% compared to the average of the 2015 to 2019 harvests. In most regions, the alternation is marked, mainly in the Golden variety, whose production would drop by 16% over one year. Fruit magnification is 10 days ahead of 2019. Production will depend on the size of the fruit at harvest.
Pear production should rebound with table pear production estimated, on July 1, 2020, at 130,000 tonnes. Or an increase of 8% over 1 year and a level reaching the five-year average. Production is forecast to increase in most producing regions and varieties.
