Significant development of organic agriculture in India, with consumers demanding healthier foods as well as governments, central and state, which support more and more organic products.
Industry professionals ensure seeing growth and a unique dynamic for almost 5 years. The awareness about the importance of organic products for producers and consumers, has increased significantly.
Production volumes increase because more and more small producers start to organic farming. government incentives, demand from Indian and foreign consumers, production increases. For the only state of Kerala, already 100,000 farmers practice organic farming and gather in ten cooperatives. The same phenomenon occurs in the states of Karnataka and Maharashtra.
The state of Sikkim (Northeast) this year became the first state in the country 100% organic. The local government decided in 2003 that the entire state would convert to organic farming, from prohibiting the sale of chemical products for use on agricultural land.
