Shipments of bananas from Canary increased by 56.74%

The Canary Islands have registered a net increase of their shipments of bananas.
According to ASPROCAN (Asociación de Organización de Productores of Platanos de Canarias), the association of producers, the archipelago has shipped a total of 29,369 tons in October 2013 or 56.74% higher and additional 11 000 tons compared to the same months of 2012 (18 755 tons).
Only 0.26% of shipments are destined for foreign countries (76 tons in the UK in October). The main customer remains Spain where bananas from Canary occupy 70% of market share and is in competition with 20 different brands, most often offered at a lower price.
