Macadamia nut production in Mozambique
Tenga Lda, made up of a group of South African investors, is investing in macadamia nut production in Niassa province in northern Mozambique. The project was being carried out in an area of 165 hectares, and the company’s board planned to expand the area to 500 hectares soon.
No precise figures for the investment was carried out so far, but according to information from the management of the company it was “millions of dollars.”
The company planned to build a nut processing factory in Niassa as the first production, of around 30 tonnes of nuts, will be transported to neighbouring Malawi for processing before it can be exported.
In Mozambique Macadamia nut production is carried out in a further two provinces with favourable weather conditions, specifically Manica and Zambézia, respectively in the districts of Manica and Gurué.
