In ten years sales of ready-to-eat, vegetables have tripled in Italy.
Ready-to-use vegetables' consumption have tripled in the last ten years, as they meet the need to save time without giving up the consumption of wholesome foods that are necessary to keep good health and fitness. This is the comment of Italian farmers' association Coldiretti about the boom of prepared vegetables' trays (+11.6%) in the first quarter of the year, which has been noted by Federalimentare.
One Italian out of two purchases ready-to-use vegetables ready for use, as sales totally amount to 700 million euros a year and volumes to over 90,000 tons.
With 1.5 kg per person purchased annually, ready-to-eat vegetables form the most dynamic segment of agrifood sector, as it is encouraged by the growing need to save time in favor of work, family but also entertainment, argues Coldiretti.
The most purchased products include salads, carrots and tomatoes to be used at home or outside, but also trays of already peeled, cut and ready fruits are spreading, to be enjoyed as a snack during the day or as a spare-time.
