Peru completes the final steps to enter the mandarin market of India
The negotiations regarding the entry of the Peruvian mandarin to India are well advanced. The technical part and the phytosanitary registry are already completed, and now only the administrative part is missing, informed the general manager of the Association of Citrus Producers of Peru (Procitrus), Sergio del Castillo.
The National Agrarian Health Service of Peru (Senasa) and Procitrus are also working on entering markets of Vietnam and the Philippines. Besides, they submitted an application to enter the Thai market.
According to data from the Foreign Trade Research and Development Institute of the Lima Chamber of Commerce (LDEXCAM), citrus deliveries in 2020 totaled 244.783 tons worth $262 million, which means an increase of 37 % compared to the registered in 2019, which constitutes a historical record. The increase was caused by the change in eating habits of consumers, driven by the pandemic.
Last year, mandarin exports totaled about $250.4 million, an increase of 36 % compared to the previous year ($184 million).
The supplies of this product grew in 11 markets, the United States being the main destination, with a growth of 52 % ($ 125.3 million); followed by the Netherlands, + 19 % ($25 million); Canada, + 15 % ($17.8 million); China, + 40 % ($15.7 million); and Russia, +90 % ($13.2 million).
