Water shortages, over production, no export access an no domestic promotion to speak of, has left many growers in dire straits.
The water issue is controlled by a much higher order, over production has been discussed and will eventually be addressed by growers downsizing or exiting the Industry, but export access is the number one priority> Steps to achieving access are taking shape, but it's generally a slow process. Summerfruit Aust has appointed Mr Rob Duthie as a specialist consultant in an effort to speed things along.
Domestic promotion in the summerfruit industry always remains a problem, with various sections of the industry beleive that domestic promotion won't solve the problems the industry currently faces.
