The South African retailer Massmart, which is controlled by 51% by Wal-Mart wants to make a key acquisition to expand its range of fresh produce.
A few weeks after its acquisition by Wal-Mart, Massmart is looking to purchase the wholesaler Fruitspot. Based in Johannesburg, the company Fruitspot which was established in 1989, has doubled its size every 3 years. With its new facilities of 12,000 m2, the company supplies other distributors and retailers such as Spar.
The acquisition of Fruitspot is consistent with the Massmart strategy, which objective is to expand its products offer and to open 100 additional stores in the next 3 years.
