Tuesday 30 October 2007
An exhibition open all year round to promote the agricultural label “Made in Morocco”. This will be the result of a new initiative being implemented in Morocco to valorise the agricultural sector in the region of Rabat. The project is called “Agropolis Rabat” and it will be carried out in partnership with the Italian province of Parma. The fair should be located in the Oum Azza area, 20 km away from the capital town, and is expected to start by 2010.
The agreement’s Memorandum of Understanding was signed on Monday, 22nd of October. “We aim at promoting and developing the agricultural sector’s potential in our region”, commented Hassan Amrani, Wali of the Rabat-Salé-Zemmour-Zaer region. Italian and Moroccan operators have already scheduled various meetings during the forthcoming four months to start and implement Agropolis. The project’s costs will be shared by the two parts.
The fair project will be formed by two structures: the first one will serve as Administration & Commercial hub and will host the permanent international fruit and vegetable exhibition, an agricultural museum and a garden centre focusing on natural and ecological biodiversity. The second hub will be devoted to the professionals of the sector, assisted by the project’s promoters; various infrastructures will constitute this hub, among which a Training and Orientation Centre. This area will also contribute to the valorisation of the technical achievements and works carried out by Moroccan Research Centres and Universities.
The project’s promoters aim at promoting the technology management and the know-how in the agricultural sector so to favour a strengthened position of the “Made in Morocco” brands on international markets. Another main target is to meet the internal demand of food products at competitive prices. It is therefore necessary an optimized management of the production costs and natural resources, water in particular.
