Travel restrictions decided by several European countries will have significant consequences in Germany where producers fear a shortage of seasonal workers.
The German Farmers' Association expects a shortage of seasonal workers from neighboring countries. The COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in travel restrictions and border closures.
This shortage of seasonal workers from abroad will affect producers for the imminent asparagus harvest but also producers of vegetables for the start of plantings (salads, cabbage, ...) and producers of fruit (strawberries, berries ).
To solve this problem, the Federal Ministry of Agriculture has put forward the idea of proposing to restaurant workers where activity has slowed considerably to come and work in the agricultural sector.
