According to the Agri-Food and Fisheries Information Service (SIAP), the planted area with apples will be increased by 6 percent (60.671 hectares), compared to the previous marketing year.

The harvested area is considered to increase by 2 percent (53.379 hectares).

However, due to adverse weather conditions in Chichuaca, the region where the 56 percent of apples production is focused, the post production forecast for MY 2020/21 is 680.504 tons, which is 11 percent lower than the previous season.

Chichuaca's MY 2020/21 production is forecast at 570.000 tons, which is 83 percent of total apple production in Mexico. The post import forecast is 251.104 tons, which represents a 2 percent decrease compared to MY2019/20.

Mexican apple exports remain stable and forecast at 657 tons for the next season.

Regarding pears, the post planted area in the following season is forecast at 3.692 hectares, which is 2 percent lower than in MY 2019/20.

74 percent of total pear production is focused in Puebla and Michoacan.

The post production forecast for the next season is 24.570, while the post forecast for imports is 81.470 tons.

Concerning fresh table grapes, the post area planted forecast for MY 2020/21 is 27.050 hectares.

The post production forecast is 391.168 tons, which is 4 percent lower than last year, due to cold weather in February and March. Sonora is expected to produce 85 percent of 320.000 tons of pears in the following season.

Imports for MY 2020/21 are forecast at 87.741, slightly lower than MY 2019/20 due to lower demand.

While Mexico produces sufficient volumes for the domestic market, consumers prefer a wider selection of varieties from Chile and the United States.

The grapes consumption forecast is 271.269 tons, while the export forecast is 207.640 tons, which is 7 percent lower compared to MY 2019/20. Most of Mexico's table grapes are exported to the United States.
