PineApp allows Costa Rican producers to control the input usage in pineapple production, thus creating less pollution.

The application was developed for Nicoverde and the pineapple farmers of Costa Rica, supported by the From Field to Plate Program implemented by the German Development Cooperation, GIZ, commissioned by the International Climate Initiative (IKI) of Germany's Federal Ministry for the Environment and Nuclear Safety (BMU).

PineApp users will know which chemical products were used during planting and if there are any that pose a risk to human health and the environment.

Jorge Sanchez, the general manager of the Nicoverde company, commented that they aim to encourage producers to use fewer agrochemicals. They recommend them to use biological alternatives to control diseases and pests.

The tool suits small and medium Costa Rican pineapple producers and exporters, mainly to the U.S and Europe.

First, PineApp will be available in Costa Rica, then it could be implemented in more countries in the region. The developers also expect to use it for other fruits in the future.

PineApp is free, and does not require registration to use it. It is available for IOS, Huawei, and Android systems.
