Planned increases for the production and export of Turkish cherries

Turkey is an important player in the cherry sector, both as a producing country and as an exporting country. For the 2022/23 season, total cherry production should increase by +12.1% and the volume of cherries exported should increase by +12.7%
 
According to a recent GAIN report released by the FAS Services of USDA, the United States Department of Agriculture, forecasts for the 2022/23 marketing season call for cherry production in Turkey totaling 980,000 tons. Or +12.1% compared to the 873,591 tonnes for the 2021/22 season, due to favorable weather conditions and improved yields this year.
 
.Production: for this 2022/23 season, total production will therefore be 980,000 tonnes, including 794,000 tonnes of sweet cherries and 186,000 tonnes of sour cherries.
 
.Domestic consumption: The report estimates domestic consumption at around 900,000 tonnes, up from 802,645 tonnes the previous season.
 
.Exports: exports for this 2022/23 season should reach 80,000 tonnes, i.e. +12.7% compared to the 70,946 tonnes of the previous season.
During the previous season the top 5 destinations of Turkish cherries were Germany (24,558 tons), Russia (23,116 tons), Iraq (7,128 tons), the Netherlands (2,241 tons) and Austria (2,194 tons).
 
In Turkey, the cherry marketing campaign begins in April.
