Fresh prickly pear, a Berlin first
Moroccan innovation once again stood out in Berlin with the launch of the new "My Cactus" prickly pear chain.
For the first time in Berlin, fresh prickly pear was offered to European distributors by the new My Cactus project, on the Lymouna-Matysha Group stand. This crop, which requires little water, aroused great interest among exhibitors and visitors alike, and was very well received on international markets, notably in the Middle East, Europe, America and Africa.
500 growers in the medium term
70 hectares are currently farmed, with progressive yields: 12 tons/ha the first year, 22 tons/ha the second, and up to 35 tons/ha by the third year. "We're planning a major expansion around the 'My Cactus' project, which will bring together more than 20 growers over a total area of 500 hectares," reveals Mr Cherradi, who is also President of the Lymouna-Matysha Touty Berry group.
My Cactus for transformation too
In addition to being a packaging and aggregation station, the new My Cactus project also plans to invest in processing the fruit, notably for the production of prickly pear oil and other by-products. For more information, please write here.
