The province’s favorable climate has made it ideal not only for persimmons but also for date cultivation.

Persimmon yields have risen significantly across several districts in Nangarhar province, Afghanistan, with this year’s harvest reaching 2,200 tons so far, according to the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock (MAIL).

Persimmons are currently grown in Kamah, Kuzkunar, Betikut, Behsud, and other districts, where MAIL has supported the development of orchards over recent years. The province’s favorable climate has made it ideal not only for persimmons but also for date cultivation, according to the ministry.

Nangarhar’s agricultural department also maintains 24 persimmon varieties on its research farms, highlighting the fruit’s diversity and growing importance in the region.

Widely consumed in Afghanistan, persimmons are also cultivated in other eastern provinces such as Kunar and Laghman, contributing to local economies.
