New protocols streamline fresh fruit shipments, reinforcing Chile’s position as a top supplier in the Chinese market.
Two agreements were signed between Chile and China during the ninth Chile Week China to enhance access for Chilean products in the Chinese market. One agreement permits fresh fruit shipments through third-country ports and airports, optimizing transit times and improving fruit quality for consumers.
Undersecretary of Agriculture Ignacia Fernandez highlighted the strengthened bilateral relationship, emphasizing improved export efficiency and quality. She also expressed gratitude to China’s Customs Administration for fostering trust and collaboration.
Cherries remain Chile's top export, with 91% destined for China during the 2023-2024 season. Iván Marambio, president of Frutas de Chile, praised the cooperation between Chile’s Ministry of Agriculture and Chinese authorities, noting that Chile leads as the main supplier of cherries and fresh temperate fruits to China.
The first cherry shipment of the season, 315 kg of Cherry Crunch from Ovalle, arrived on October 16 and sold out in under 30 minutes at Huizhan Market.
